JEE Advanced 2018: Why Previous Year Question Papers Are a Must

Congratulations! You have met the qualifying cut-off of JEE Main 2018 and are now eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam on May 20, 2018! Well, you may have sailed through the first obstacle, but remember a bigger challenge looms ahead. To secure a good rank for a seat in the prestigious IITs or the engineering college of your choice you have to be on the top of your game in terms of preparation. Needless to say, you must be well-versed with the syllabus and every concept at this juncture.   The focus should now be on revision and problem solving to improve performance level.  The previous year’s question papers are the perfect source for this.   Let’s explore why solving past exam papers can prove to be a great tune-up in the JEE Advanced 2018 preparation.

1.A better understanding of pattern:

Since the sample papers are based on the actual format of the exam, they are the best tools to provide a clear picture of what to expect on the D-day. Solving them can help acquire a good understanding of the pattern, the type of questions, various topics, weightage given to different sections, marking system, methodology, the overall level of difficulty and more.

2. Assess your preparation Level:

Sample papers are the perfect measure to gauge the true level of your preparation. The scores attained reflect your strengths and weakness, so you have a clear-cut idea of your actual standing, your areas of proficiency and weakness. You can thus prioritise your study regime accordingly and concentrate on improving the shortcomings.

3.  Speed and time-management:

Time plays a crucial role in the competitive exam. By going through the past question papers, you can enhance your capability, accuracy, and speed on problem-solving. Further, you learn how to weed out distractions and manage time effectively to help complete the exam in the stipulated time frame. You can take multiple of these mock tests before you sit for an actual exam ensuring you are more than prepared and know exactly how to manage your time well. Moreover, you can build your own strategies as to which sections should you get to first and which ones should you keep for the last in an actual exam.

4. Learn from Mistakes:

Attempting papers consistently can assist in evaluating your mistakes and learning from them. By slashing the chances of making silly errors you strengthen your question-solving skills and start performing better. This, in turn, can lead to a better score and a good rank in the JEE Advanced.

5. Builds Confidence:

Solving question papers vanquishes fears and gives a big boost to the morale. Having tons of practice under your belt bestows a sense of self-assurance and confidence to stay focused and relaxed on the exam day. Such a temperament can definitely lead to a positive outcome.

“Practice makes a man perfect”! This popular adage aptly describes the role of previous year question papers in JEE Advanced 2018 prep! There is no denying that solving past papers are important prerequisites and contribute significantly to success, so practice hard on a regular basis to ace the competitive exam.

Best of luck for the upcoming exam!
